Martial Arts Therapy |
} |
for children fighting cancer |
Martial Arts Therapy attempts to tune the body to its natural rhythm through a host of breathing techniques and soft circular body motions accompanied with intense isometric muscular martial exercises improving the chi flow. The student learns how to develop a stronger charge when their energy begins to ebb.
Martial Arts Therapy also offers PSEs (Positive Sensory Experiences) to enhance and amplify
the chi flow. Using each of our senses we teach our students how to experience the natural
power of things in nature that have cosmic force.
For example, experiencing the Rose Flower in its entirety in its environment.
The scent, the taste as it touches our lips, the visual beauty, the caress of the stem, the petals
and the gentle touch of the thorns and listening to the petals as the wind blows.
Now we have the students try the same thing from their imagination.
Another example is the ocean feeling the intensity of each sense lighting up – seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling tasting the wind and waves crashing on and around you is awesome, especially when you allow yourself to let your body be taken in the shallow end of the water – in a natural floating sensation. There are many other forms of harnessing energy, which will appear in our manual.
Trenergy – Energy Bursts from others to fight sickness. This is boosting the child's signal (immunity) from
an outside source. Instead of receiving synthetic chemicals regularly to fight the pain the kids are manufacturing their own natural chemicals as they are exposed to high energy people, which is usually found in most serious martial art schools, especially those with serious instructors.
The class alone develops a rhythm and begins to have its own flow where the individual taps in to their fellow students' energy. This is Trenergy.
Humor – Humor is a strong form of energy promotion, which assists in pain management and in the healing process. One can start with smiling then proceed to laughing and jump towards cheering. When we laugh we are practicing various forms of breathing exercises and are using various muscles in our face and solar plexus to enhance our health.
The Body and Mind Connection – Students learn that there is a symbiotic relationship between body and mind. When the mind seems to lose patience and becomes unfocused, the students can work on the body to affect the mind. Likewise, when the body is injured or feeling sick one can use the mind to begin to affect the body.
Character – One must have character to train in the spirit of martial arts and then the student develops higher levels of character as his/her skills sharpen. When one begins to yearn to help others less fortunate and to be nice all the time to all peoples regardless of personal difficulties – this is when the indomitable spirit of the warrior arises. With empowerment and might comes responsibility. Students learn how to make our community a better place to live.
Empowerment – When you can defend yourself on the outside you can begin to learn how to defend yourself on the inside. When you can defend yourself physically you can defend yourself emotionally. When you learn you have the ability to defend others you love both physically and emotionally your self-esteem climbs through the roof and students stricken with any sickness do not see themselves as a victim nor do others see them as such either.
Hope – When you learn to become part of the healing process you reach new levels of hope. When you begin to really believe that your training is part of the healing, perhaps this triggers responses in our brain.
Spirit(ual) – Giving meaning to our life is fulfilling. Martial Arts Therapy offers students the chance
to be part of giving and helping others in need, to explore their humanity amidst their own personal turmoil.
We teach the students how to "Live in the moment – how to freeze time" as they experience positive
sensory experiences. Martial Arts Therapy teaches the students to develop their sense of purpose
making them spiritual which is a form of healing.
Prayer – Martial arts philosophy often hovered around the belief in a deity or a cosmic force that we can appeal to or tap into its resources for gathering energy for life support and healing. Praying to God – to a higher entity than us – gives the student the hope that he/she is partnering with a higher power which can control their destiny and that of the world. This belief humbles us as we grow strong but not arrogant.
Education – Students appreciate the martial arts sciences that are involved. Many of their martial arts techniques work from the following principles, which they are responsible to learn.
Balance and Stance | Center of Gravity
Momentum | Conservation of Energy
Spatial Distance & Reach | Speed/Velocity
Work | Power | Torque | Friction |
Impact | Acceleration | Energy | Force |
Impulse | Mass | Gravity | Potential |
Kinetic Energy | Inertia | Equation
Fundamental Fighting Concepts
Anatomy | Physiology | Kinesiology |
Students also learn Cognitive Kinetic Connections, teaching those who need help maximizing their potential. This training modality can be used for all academic subjects. The adrenaline and endorphins released alongside the bad sugar that is being burned from their last meal helps to keep the students awake, alert, focused, and happy so they can achieve higher learning more effectively with retention.
Martial arts training can be a lifelong pursuit.
